Mount Shavano is a prominent mountain located in central Colorado in the United States, within the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains. It has an elevation of 14,229 feet (4,337 meters) above sea level, making it one of Colorado's many "Fourteeners," or mountains exceeding 14,000 feet in elevation.
The mountain is named after Ute Indian Chief Shavano, who lived in the region in the 19th century. Mount Shavano is known for its beautiful hiking trails, including the popular Shavano and Tabeguache Peak Trail, which leads to the summit of both peaks.
The trailhead for Mount Shavano is located near the town of Salida, and the hike to the summit typically takes 6-8 hours. The trail features stunning views of the surrounding mountain range, including nearby Mount Antero and the Collegiate Peaks. The mountain is also a popular destination for backcountry skiing and snowboarding in the winter months.
